Recently we have had frequent dinner guests and I saw the need to have some spare napkin rings on hand. But, surprise, individual napkin rings are hard to find; they most often come in sets of four. Until I hit Pier 1 this morning. I found these three napkin rings on clearance: $1 for one and 58 cents each for the other two. That's the kind of deal I like.
Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Pie NOT to Repeat!
I felt like baking a pie the other day.
It was golden brown. It did look delicious. But on eating, the apricots were so chewy that it was not a pleasure to eat. But at least the crust was good!
I spied a tub of dried apricots in the pantry that needed to be used. I searched my cookbooks and found an apricot pie recipe using dried apricots. The apricots required a soaking and simmering before being dumped into the crust. I envisioned pulling a golden brown pie from the oven, filled with tasty, tender apricots.

Homemade French Bread
Delicious when split lengthwise, buttered, wrapped in foil and heated in the oven for about 15 minutes until warm and melty. A great accompaniment to spaghetti and tossed salad. Plan on half a loaf for each adult appetite.

Menu Plan Monday
Some of the ideas will have to be shelved for an indefinite length of time due to their outrageous cost. Prime rib? I don't think so! Other ideas were too vague to be of use to me at this moment. Chinese food. That's not much help to me. Or I have no recipe at the moment. Spanakopita. Uh, you'll have to go to a Greek restaurant to get that.
Next step was to write down all the ingredients I need for all the dishes for this week. I had a very LOOONG shopping list, but, surprisingly, I spent about the same as I usually spend for the week's groceries.
So we'll see how it goes...
